We have been advised by Civil Defence of an 8.3 quake in Chile and Civil Defence has issued a tsunami warning for the Chatham Islands and Banks Peninsula.
Civil Defence has advised that the first tsunami activity may reach New Zealand in the areas around East Cape at approximately 00.15 on 18 September. People in coastal areas should:
    1.       Stay out of the water (Sea, river and estuaries. Including boating activities)
    2.       Stay off beaches and shore areas
    3.       Do not go sightseeing
    4.       Share this information with family, neighbours and friends
    5.       Listen to the radio and or TV for updates
    6.       Follow instructions of local civil defence authorities
The tsunami warning will remain in effect until a cancellation message is issued by Civil Defence.
Because of our location, this is not an immediate threat to the school. However, we are sending this as general information that may affect our surrounding area where some of our school families live.
Any implications for the school will be notified through our emergency text tree or on the URGENT UPDATES on our school website.
